See-Saw Plans |
When I was a child, the kids in my neighborhood were much younger than me. My brothers and sisters were older and most of them had already moved away from home. There were a group of little kids within looking distance of my mother’s kitchen window so I spent a lot of time with them. This was a time when people didn't have modern playground equipment in their yard as a standard item as they do now days. At best they had the old, thin, short, cheap swing sets in which I, the big kid, was not allowed to play on. If I was going to have someone to play with I had to come up with something that we could all do. A stick could be transformed into many useful things. At times we would all ride on our stick horses and start shooting with our stick guns. We fished off of the picnic table with our sticks and did just about anything that we could with them. We made see-saws with a large board and a cement block or what ever we could find. It was not unusual to have three kids on one end and me on the other. Like I said, I was bigger. I could carry them all at one time. We had to find a balance point where it worked and sometimes the block would turn over and we would all come crashing down. If someone got hurt then their mother would call all of the little kids in and the big kid would have to go home. Today it seems that everyone has some form of really nice playground equipment in their yard. I like to see kids having fun just as I did back then, however being a parent, I like to see kids play safely and with plenty of room for the big kid(s) to play too. In any case, all play equipment must be made with quality and safety in mind. If you ride by my house and see me on my kid’s See-Saw with a pile of kids on the other end, I am still just the big kid - but they can’t send me home. see-saw plans
